Irish permission residence registration & Renewal

First Time Registration

If you are from a country outside the European Union, UK or Switzerland, and come to Ireland to work, study, live or join family for more than 90 days, you must register with your local immigration office. Registration is how the government records you have been given permission to stay in Ireland. The type of permission you receive is printed on an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) sent to you by post once you have successfully registered. It is crucial to note that once permission is granted, you must register it within 90 days to apply for your IRP card.

Registration renewal

When you receive a permission to live in Ireland, you may be given the option to renew it after a certain period. Applications for renewal of permission are accepted up to 12 weeks prior to expiry to allow sufficient time for processing.Depending on your permission, you may be able to renew it. When you receive your IRP card, the expiration date will indicate when it needs to be renewed. For example, you may have permission to study for eight months. If you choose to stay in Ireland beyond that time for further study, you need to request a new permission and renew your registration. It costs €300 to renew some permissions, while others do not require a fee.
